Maastricht Academic Library
Building Knowledge Places ..!
“Imagine: ..you are a university student living in a region with high youth unemployment and serious under-development, and you are eager to improve your life chances and your community well-being. But, unfortunately there are no academic readers nor scholarly information..“
This is the reality.. in the Niger Delta of Nigeria; as such the International College of Commerce, with the support of the libraries of Maastricht University, VU Amsterdam and Wageningen UR, has initiated the Maastricht Library project in the region.
With help.. from our supports we have collected 110,000 academic, reference and vocational books, journals and encyclopaedias of which a quarter has been shipped to Nigeria and made available to only a few students, teachers, academics and practitioners in the region.
Our library is named after the European city of Maastricht, located in The Netherlands. The city is home to Maastricht University (UM); a Dutch government university, which stands out for its innovative approach to learning and international outlook.
The independant academic library initiative is supported by various Dutch university libraries (VU University Amsterdam and Wageningen University and Research Centre) of which Maastricht University Library is the chief contributor. As an acknowledgement for this special commitment the board has named the library after the sponsor’s place of origin.
